I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, baseball isn’t as popular as other sports. It’s a tough reality, but it is the truth. More and more people are starting to like the action packed football, basketball, and hockey. There are some things that baseball can do, and that’s why today I will be writing about simple ideas to get baseball more popular.
Idea 1:
Market baseball to very young kids. In other words, get them interested when they’re little so that they grow up to a love of baseball. This might not work immediately, however it will work in the long run.
Idea 2:
Make baseball fun. I’m not saying that baseball isn’t fun, but I’ve heard a lot of people say that baseball just isn’t a fun game. Some players think the same thing. I don’t care how he does it, but baseball needs to be more fun.
Idea 3:
Market to the younger generation. This goes hand in hand with idea 1, but if we’re going to get baseball popular for a long time, we’re going to have to market to the younger generation. It can be pickup home run derbies with stars that give the game action. And that leads me into idea 4…
Idea 4:
Market baseball stars. Players like Christian Yelich, Mike Trout, and Mookie Betts all make the game exciting. Market them, and that’s a way to get baseball exciting.
Idea 5:
I know that this is unreasonable to ask of Rob Manfred, but make the game faster. This is the number one reason that people don’t like baseball. It moves slowly. We can learn from players like Mark Buehrle who pitched at a very fast pace. Now I don’t know he’s going to do it, but it would redeem Manfred as a commissioner.
