This is an addon on to the article titled “Will Teams Adopt a Shorter Rotation For A Shorter Season?”.
Baseball wasn’t always like this. Back in the early 1900’s, it was considered normal for a pitcher to throw a complete game. In fact, it was odd if a pitcher didn’t throw a complete game.
Why was this? Teams had different philosophies and ideas on what a team should be. they didn’t yet understand the importance of a bullpen.
The pitchers were also much more durable.
