The Jose Bautista Punch (Part 2)

I covered part 1 of the Bautista bat flip in this article.

One of the most iconic moments of the 2016 season was when Rougned Odor punched Jose Bautista. You see, the Rangers were still mad that Jose Bautista had eliminated them in the postseason, and that he disrespected them. So if Jose Bautista stepped out of line, even the slightest step, he was going to be hammered. And he was.

On May 15, 2016, the Rangers were getting their third home game against the Blue Jays. They remembered all too well what had happened back in October. It was a “spooky” scene.

But going into the Bottom of the 6th, none of that mattered because the Rangers were down 5-2. An Adrian Beltre solo home run helped, but Kevin Pillar responded with a sac fly in the top of the 7th to make the score 6-3. The next inning, Ian Desmond would hit a home run to take the lead.

In the Top of the 8th, Jose Bautista walked up to start the inning. tensions might have been a little high, because Matt Bush plunked Bautista with a pitch. And Bautista wasn’t very happy. The next play, Edwin Encarnacion flew out to LF. And then, the horrible happened.

Justin Smoak grounded a ball to 3B and Jose Bautista slid right into Rougned Odor. Odor misplaced the throw, got up, and shoved Bautista. And then he punched him. And if you pause it and look carefully, Bautista literally looked like Mr. Potato head. Odor tried to punch Bautista again, but Adrian Beltre pulled Bautista out of the fight.

But then of course, later in the season the Rangers were eliminated at the hands of the Blue Jays. So you tell me who got the last laugh.
