Why I Hate Rob Manfred

The commissioner of the MLB is supposed to set an example. But right now, we have a commissioner so bad, so horrible that pretty much every person in the sport is begging for a new one. I think, no, I know that every person in baseball would back me up here, because Rob Manfred is quite horrible. And here’s why.

Where to begin with him? I’ll start out with his obscene remark about the World Series trophy. It is called the “Commissioner’s Trophy”, and that comes with high respect. So when you call the trophy, THE TROPHY, a piece of metal when defending his punishment, people are going to go crazy. You just cannot say that. The thing that the players work so hard for, what the fans root for, and is the ultimate goal of baseball, and still Manfred is really going to say that? What kind of faker do we have here?

“The idea of an asterisk or asking for a piece of metal back seems like a futile act. People will always know that something was different about the 2017 season, and whether we made that decision right or wrong, we undertook a thorough investigation, and had the intestinal fortitude to share the results of that investigation, even when those results were not very pretty.” -Rob Manfred, 2020

The part that I find funny, besides our commissioner being 2 years old, is when he says that people will always know that something was different about the 2017 season. If something was fishy, then that deserves an asterisk, right? Well, they cheated, they got away with it, they have the title, and the innocent people are banned. And what do the fans get to say?

‘That’s OUR commissioner!’. -Said no one ever, 2020

I could go on and on. But I do have other points to make. “It’s just a piece of rubber!” -Rob Manfred, 2021. Keep 2021 in mind.

The fact that the Red Sox punishment hasn’t come out is laughable. I wrote my article about the Red Sox scandal on January 7th. It’s February 27th now. It’s been 51 days. Let’s get the punishment by now. I do believe that this punishment will come out in 2021. That’s not a lie. With Rob Manfred, anything is possible, and that isn’t good.

Manfred said that he would give the Astros players protection in case they were going to be intentionally thrown at, which is good at first thought. He’s making sure that the Astros players won’t get hurt. Good, right? No. In other words, what he’s saying is that he will REWARD Astros players with protection from getting hit by a pitch, and he will punish the perfectly clean pitchers. So instead of the players getting punished, which they should have by the way, they get rewarded. And to the pitcher that hits a batter accidentally? Welp. Poor them. The Astros will get hit a lot in the season, though.

In a player driven scandal, which I remind you was ENTIRELY player driven, the players were not punished one bit. In fact, the players were rewarded with protection. This will lead to pitchers not wanting to hit Astros batters, and the domino effect will ensue. But no, Manfred instead decides to punish the perfectly innocent Jeff Luphow. Okay, doc. By no means was AJ Hinch innocent, but a whole year suspension? He even destroyed the camera on multiple occasions. Okay, doc. While the players get rewarded for cheating. That makes no sense.

Please, a new commissioner. Rob Manfred is a baby, and last I checked babies aren’t allowed as commissioners of the MLB.
